About me

I'm Harshad, a 20 year old International Master from India and a Computer Science engineering student.

I started chess at the age of 7 and have over a decade of competitive experience, including medals at national and international championships. My goal as a coach is to help students think clearly, build strong fundamentals, and become confident tournament players.

Playing experience

I have over 13 years of competitive chess experience and have represented India at several international events.

Some of my notable achievements include an Asian Youth U16 silver medal and Western Asian medals in all three formats. I have also won multiple international tournaments and earned some podium finishes at national youth events.

These experiences have shaped my practical approach to chess and my understanding of high-level tournament play.

Teaching experience

I have been coaching for over a year and have experience working with players looking to improve their practical understanding of chess.

In addition to coaching, I have worked as a second for strong Grandmasters, primarily assisting with opening preparation and game analysis. This has given me valuable insight into how top players prepare and approach tournaments.

My lessons focus on practical improvement, clear thinking, and building habits that translate into better results over the board.

Best skills

My areas of focus include opening repertoire building and expansion, understanding opening ideas and plans, calculation and decision making, and practical endgame technique.

I aim to help students understand the ideas behind their moves rather than rely solely on memorization.

Teaching methodology

I begin by analyzing a student's recent games to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas that need improvement. Based on this, I create a structured training plan tailored to their goals.

I aim to build a friendly and comfortable learning environment where students feel free to ask questions and discuss ideas. Lessons may include repertoire building, opening preparation, game analysis.

I also provide study material, recommend books and other resources, and suggest areas that require additional work outside of lessons.
